Rishon offers an extensive Lifelong Adult Learning program which provides a diverse range of Jewish learning opportunities for the dedicated lifelong learners in our temple community. We greatly value the Jewish tradition of thoughtful lifelong study and have integrated it into the tapestry of our synagogue experience. We offer a wide variety of daytime, evening, weekday and Shabbat educational programs, taught either by our clergy, by guest speakers and scholars, or led by our own members in a shared learning experience.
Some of our events are open to the public. See news and upcoming events.
Regular Engagement with Clergy
Regular events include Nosh and Drash (a participatory discussion group featuring Bagels and Bible, Coffee and Commentary!), the Rabbi's Tisch, and meetings to discuss the news from a Jewish perspective.
ADULT B'NEI MITZVOT
You're Never Too Old!
A journey of 15-18 months to connect with your Jewish identity, to learn the skills necessary to fully participate in Shabbat services, to study the Torah and analyze the parshats, and to learn basic Hebrew to allow you to read the siddur and the Torah. Taught by the Rabbi and our Hebrew tutor.
Our Food For Thought: Distinguished Speaker Series presents a thought-provoking, educational, and social Jewish learning opportunity for our members and is open to the greater Jewish community. Featured guest speakers are Rabbis, professors and scholars in the fields of Jewish Studies who present their knowledgeable perspectives to the audience.
Jewish-Themed Book Club
The Reader's Circle Book Club continues to meet with a solid core of committed participants who have enthusiasm for sharing wonderful books, many with Jewish themes. We hope you will find the time to read with us -- you will be glad you did! Recent books include The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish, and An Unorthodox Match by Naomi Ragen.
