Camp Little Feet - Summer, 2017 - Recap
We had a fabulous summer at Camp Little Feet! From playing under the sprinklers, riding tricycles on the bike path, digging the sandbox, painting in the yard, and planting flowers and vegetables in our brand new “outdoor classroom,” we did something new every day! Thanks to the talent and creativity of our amazing staff, and the return of our swim and tennis programs, our enrollment doubled from the previous year! Each week was filled with art, music, stories, science, and hands on experiences related to the “Theme of the Week.” The children loved when we planted zucchini during “Getting Next to Nature Week” and then made zucchini fries several weeks later when we were celebrating “Fun with Food.”
Every Tuesday and Thursday we boarded two air-conditioned busses equipped with car seats and driven by the professionals at Yellowbird Transportation, and made the two-mile trip to the Goldfish Swim School in Wyckoff. Divided into groups of four students, a swim instructor, and a TBR staff member, our campers received personalized swim lessons for thirty minutes. After the hard work comes the fun! Goldfish closed an entire section of the pool for us, so we put on our puddle jumpers and we had a free swim. We had so much fun riding on the boats, floating giant toys and practicing our skills, that our CIT’s, and many of the off-duty life guards felt compelled to join us! After we dried off and changed into clothes, we had a “luau type” picnic and a short story-time A highlight was always a visit with the resident fish in the aquarium while we waited to picked up at the end of the day.
As a great wrap-up to the week, the amazing coaches from “Teddy Tennis” came to us every Friday! Each age group received their own individualized tennis clinic. The coaches were patient, innovative and made sure that the kids were learning skills while having fun! They connected each lesson to a different “Teddy bear character” so the campers were able to see their progress in a very concrete, and entertaining way.
So, while the activities were fabulous, I was most impressed by the dedication of all the teachers to make the children feel comfortable, secure and loved during their time here at CLF. While we are sad to see such a memorable summer come to a close, we are proud to see campers who are SO ready to come to school.
See You Next Summer!!
