Lois Ruderman is returning for her third year as Temple Beth Rishon’s rabbinic intern. She is studying for the rabbinate at The Academy for Jewish Religion in Yonkers, NY, a pluralistic seminary training rabbis and cantors, and will be ordained this coming April 2017.
The rabbinate is Rabbi Lois' third career track. She earned her bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and her Masters of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Adelphi University, and then served as a speech therapist in the Edison Township school system. After several years, she transitioned to her second career as mom to three daughters, now all in their twenties.
Prior to coming to Temple Beth Rishon, Rabbi Lois spent a year as the visiting student rabbi of a synagogue along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, and for many years, she was a youth group advisor at several New Jersey synagogues.
Rabbi Lois served as a Chaplain Intern at Overlook Hospital in Summit where she ministered to patients and family of all denominations.
On Friday mornings, Rabbi Lois can be found with our preschoolers, sharing the joy of Shabbat and Torah through song and story. Rabbi Lois runs workshops for our religious school students and their families, often using art. Who knew that four inches of copper plumbing pipe could be turned into a mezuzah? This year, she will again offer her popular Tallit Workshop where students design and craft their own kosher tallit.
Our lively Nosh and Drash Torah discussion program for adults led by Rabbi Lois is held on two Shabbat mornings a month before services. Rabbi Lois also teaches Torah and Haftorah to our Bar and Bat Mitzvah students and their families.
Rabbi Lois finds joy in serving TBR congregants on the bima, in the classroom, and in all aspects of our congregation’s life, and she is excited to be returning for the 5776-5777 year!
