The education of our children in the history, customs, language and rituals of the Jewish people is one of the most important priorities of our Temple. A staff of experienced teachers and a qualified full time director all influence your child's religious growth.
SUNDAY SCHOOL: Our Sunday School is for our kindergarten, first and second grade students who meet once a week for two hours on Sunday. These students are introduced to Jewish holidays, home rituals, basic Jewish terminology and beginning Hebrew vocabulary and prayer. The methods of study are through music, crafts, dance and story telling.
HEBREW SCHOOL: Our school system is presented in carefully graded stages. The primary grades Alef, Bet, Gimel and Dalet are our third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students who meet twice a week for a total of four hours. The emphasis is on reading, prayer book language, Jewish holiday concepts, the Jewish life cycle, Jewish ethics and history. Our Hey students are seventh graders who meet once a week for two hours.
In their Hebrew School classes our students learn the skills needed to help lead Friday night and Saturday morning services, building each year on the foundation of the previous year's material. Starting about one year before their bar/bat mitzvah, they meet regularly with the Cantor and Rabbi, join the Rabbi's 1-hour Saturday morning prayer class and are expected to stay for our Shabbat morning service.
The Hebrew and Sunday school are involved with tzedakah "charity" projects and community service activities. These programs help teach our students about our Jewish obligation of tikkun olam "repair of the world" and show them how they can make a difference.
CONFIRMATION CLASS: This class is included in our Hebrew High School. Click here for details.
