We are fortunate as Jews to have so many traditions that provide meaning and spiritual beauty for the many stages and experiences we go through in our lifetime. Along with these traditions come many rituals and details that bring these experiences into a formal event. These are referred to as life cycle events. There are a variety of reasons for performing ritual in a particular way when celebrating a life cycle event, and we sometimes search for explanations to give us a better understanding of what needs to be done.
The Ritual Committee has been working for some time on compiling a document that explains each life cycle event so that we can all know where to begin when we are approaching one of these events in our lives or when something has happened unexpectedly. This booklet contains a great deal of work that required much research, discussion and thought. It is our pleasure to present this to you with the hope that you will find the information meaningful and useful in your own life.
Of course, the goal of this project is to offer as comprehensive a description as possible, but we recognize that there may still be questions unanswered. Please feel free to contact Rabbi Emert or Cantor Mamber with any questions or concerns that may arise while planning for your specific life cycle event. Also, please know that we offer this booklet to our membership with great love and dedication, and we hope you find its contents both useful and comforting.
