WELCOME to TBR!
Welcome to TBR – a synagogue to believe in!!! Since 1975, from our humble beginning of 19 founding families, Temple Beth Rishon has evolved into the epicenter of religious, educational and social activities in the northwest part of Bergen County. We have been located at our existing site since 1980, but in order to meet the needs of our growing congregation, our building was expanded, renovated and modernized in 1984 and then again in 2002. We have now grown to be a community of almost 500 families and we focus on appreciating and valuing every single person’s special and unique contribution to our synagogue.
Both children and adults are invited onto the bima to participate and lead prayers in both English and Hebrew. Children are also invited to participate in our exciting Junior Congregation services, tailored to their grade levels and knowledge. Rabbi Emert and Hazzan Mamber focus on creating an inclusive and interactive worshipping experience. We offer family services, festival services and meals, and holiday activities for all ages.
Our full-time Hebrew School director, Rabbi Sandy Olshansky, has been instrumental in creating an exciting school with a knowledgeable and caring staff. The importance of Tzedakah and mitzvot are values we strongly support and emphasize in our teachings. Children learn about Jewish tradition, holidays, and history. They also learn to read Hebrew and lead our congregation in prayer in preparation for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah as well as their future integration into the Jewish community.
We also boast a wonderful Preschool beginning with ‘Mom and Tot’ classes (from 7 months) and continuing though Kindergarten Enrichment. Under the watchful eye of our full-time Preschool director, Diane Silberman, our nurturing staff is committed to affording each child an opportunity to develop their social skills, begin to explore academic adventures, and learn about Jewish culture and holidays. We do all this while developing a positive self esteem for each growing and developing child.
Our fulltime Youth director, Jana Schwartz, has built our TBR Youth Group to a vibrant organization of over 75 young people. Our Sisterhood and Men's Club enthusiastically support our community with programming and educational opportunities. We offer bridge, mah jong, knitting, theater trips as well as a prestigious scholar in residence program, an adult b’nai mitzvah program and adult education.
For many of our congregants, Temple Beth Rishon is their home away from home. It provides an environment that emphasizes the joys of Judaism, the love of learning, and the comfort of a supportive community. We are a flourishing community, and in that spirit, we invite you to join us. TBR Membership is dedicated to reaching out to individuals and families with diverse Jewish backgrounds, including those who are unaffiliated or are interfaith, who have an interest in joining a synagogue.
Come to a Shabbat services! Share in our enthusiasm! Sit in a class for an hour or two. Get involved in activities! Meet new friends! Reacquaint with old ones! Come join us and feel the energy! TBR is a synagogue to believe in!!!
